About
InsideTracker’s DNA Kit is the genetic layer of the broader InsideTracker platform: a one-time at-home cheek swab that analyzes about 20,000 genetic markers and reports up to 38 wellness traits, including 10 healthspan-related polygenic scores. Built on a curated set of 261 selected SNPs from peer-reviewed research, it covers heart health, metabolism, fitness, recovery, endurance, hormone balance, inflammation, sleep, cognition, and gut health. Results integrate with blood biomarkers, wearable data, and lifestyle inputs through SegterraX; DNA alone is positioned as one layer of the larger picture.
DNA results are interpreted by InsideTracker's proprietary SegterraX AI engine and surfaced as polygenic scores plus lifestyle strategies. There is no clinician-written summary; the product is wellness-framed and not a clinical diagnostic. Bring results to your own physician for medical decisions.
What to Know
Signature approach
Order the kit, swab your cheek for a few minutes, mail it back in the prepaid envelope, and wait for results to land in the app. Lab analysis runs against InsideTracker's curated 261-SNP array; SegterraX then layers the genetic readout against any blood biomarkers, connected wearable data, and lifestyle inputs to produce polygenic scores rather than single-variant reports. The output is a percentile-anchored score per trait plus actionable lifestyle strategies — not a list of raw genotypes.
What sets it apart
- Polygenic scores, not single-variant reports. The 10 healthspan scores combine many SNPs each, which research shows is a stronger predictor of complex traits than any one variant — no MTHFR-style single-gene reports.
- Custom chip tuned for actionable traits. 261 markers selected from over 20,000 against rigorous criteria (replication studies, 1,000+ subjects, GWAS preferred), focused on wellness traits a behavior change can move.
- Built to combine with blood and wearables. DNA isn't read in isolation — SegterraX integrates it with biomarker results and tracker data to surface where genetic potential and current physiology diverge.
Before You Order
- US-only. The kit is not available in Canada, the UK, or other international markets.
- Wellness, not diagnostic. Polygenic scores are probabilities, not medical diagnoses; bring results to your own clinician for medical decisions.
- Membership unlocks the full experience. Kit-only buyers can download the DNA Report, but the integrated dashboard with blood and wearable data needs Membership.
- No epigenetics, telomeres, or APOE. This is a SNP-based wellness report, not a methylation clock, telomere test, or single-gene clinical screen.

No epigenetic testing (Horvath's Clock, telomere length, DNA methylation). No individual-variant reports for genes such as MTHFR, APOE, or BRCA — InsideTracker uses polygenic scores that combine many SNPs rather than single-variant interpretation. No pharmacogenomics, no carrier screening, no ancestry. The cognitive aging score explicitly excludes Alzheimer's-linked variants. Wellness-framed only — not a clinical diagnostic and not intended to replace a physician.
Reference ranges methodology
InsideTracker uses customized polygenic scores (PGSs) drawn from a curated set of 261 SNPs selected from over 20,000 commonly researched genetic markers. Selection criteria require at least one study and one replication study, a combined sample size of 1,000+ subjects (no fewer than 100 per individual study), and preference for large GWAS evidence. The 10 healthspan-related scores combine related markers into proprietary genetic scores; raw markers without enough supporting evidence are not surfaced as scores.

How it works
- 1
Get your DNA kit in the mail
Order on the InsideTracker store. Kit ships USPS and arrives in 3-5 business days. Register the kit ID (starting with IT000) in your InsideTracker account before swabbing.
- 2
Collect your DNA sample
Follow the in-kit instructions to swab your cheek. Avoid eating, drinking, or brushing teeth for 30 minutes before collection. The cheek-swab takes a few minutes and runs entirely from home.
- 3
Mail your sample to the lab
Place the swab into the biohazard bag, seal it in the prepaid return envelope, and drop it in the mail. Samples are room-temperature stable for 5 years; no refrigeration needed.
- 4
Download the app and wait for analysis
Download the InsideTracker mobile app while the lab processes your sample. SegterraX AI analyzes the SNPs and generates the report once lab data lands.
- 5
Review your DNA Report and Action Plan
Email arrives when results are ready. View the 38 wellness trait analyses and 10 healthspan polygenic scores in the mobile app or web dashboard. With a Membership, results integrate live with blood biomarkers, wearable data, and lifestyle inputs.
Frequently asked questions
How is this different from 23andMe or AncestryDNA?
23andMe and Ancestry are mass-market DNA tests built primarily around ancestry, with health-trait reports as an add-on. InsideTracker's kit is a wellness-and-healthspan DNA test built around polygenic scores tuned for fitness, metabolism, sleep, hormones, cognition, and other actionable traits. The InsideTracker chip captures a custom SNP set (261 selected markers) that supports its proprietary scores; chips at 23andMe or Ancestry may not include all of those markers, especially on older test generations. You can also upload existing 23andMe or Ancestry data as a lower-cost path, with the trade-off that the report may be less comprehensive.
Why doesn't the DNA report include MTHFR, APOE, or other specific genes?
InsideTracker uses polygenic scores (PGSs) rather than individual-variant reports. A PGS combines many genetic variants into a cumulative score, which research shows is a stronger predictor of complex wellness traits than any single variant. Single-variant reports like MTHFR are not part of the model.
Does the cognitive aging score predict Alzheimer's?
No. The cognitive aging score is a polygenic score for general cognitive aging trajectory and explicitly does not include Alzheimer's-linked genetic variants. An elevated cognitive aging score is a probability weighting based on lifestyle-modifiable genetic associations — not a diagnosis or prediction of Alzheimer's disease.
Do I need a Membership to use the DNA Kit?
No, but a Membership unlocks the most useful version. The DNA Report itself is downloadable without a Membership when purchased as a kit. The integrated dashboard — where DNA results combine with blood biomarkers, wearable data, and lifestyle inputs to produce a personalized Action Plan — requires the $149/yr InsideTracker Membership.
Is the DNA Kit available outside the US?
No. The DNA Kit and DNA Results Upload are US-only due to international data privacy laws. This is a hard restriction — even Canadian customers, who can use the Ultimate Blood Test, cannot purchase or upload DNA on InsideTracker.
How long does the kit last if I don't use it right away?
Unused kits are good for 3 years from purchase. Once you collect the sample, it is room-temperature stable for 5 years with no loss in DNA integrity, so there is no rush to mail it back.
Does InsideTracker test epigenetics or telomere length?
No. The DNA Kit reads SNPs only — no epigenetic clocks (Horvath's Clock), no telomere length, no DNA methylation. InsideTracker positions its blood-biomarker-based InnerAge 2.0 analysis as the more actionable biological-age measure.
