About
Jeffrey B. Blumberg, PhD is a Research Professor and Professor of Nutrition Emeritus at Tufts University Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, and one of the most-cited figures in antioxidant nutrition science. He spent 37 years at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging (HNRCA) at Tufts — including 34 years directing the Antioxidants Research Laboratory (1981–2015) and 23 years as Assistant then Associate Director of the HNRCA. His work probes the biochemical role of vitamin E, polyphenols, and other antioxidant nutrients in oxidative stress, glucoregulation, and inflammation across the aging process. 400+ peer-reviewed publications, H-index 90; named to Thomson Reuters' Most Influential Scientific Minds (2015) and Mendeley's top 1% of authors in nutrition and dietetics (2020).
What to Know
Signature approach
Blumberg’s scientific lens is antioxidant nutrition and healthy aging. Four decades at the USDA HNRCA Antioxidants Research Laboratory built the evidence base for how vitamin E, polyphenols, and related nutrients affect oxidative stress, glucoregulation, and inflammation as people age. For InsideTracker, that expertise strengthens the nutrition and biomarker-interpretation side of the platform.
What sets them apart
- 400+ peer-reviewed publications, H-index 90. Listed by Thomson Reuters among the World's Most Influential Scientific Minds (2015) and by Mendeley in the top 1% of nutrition and dietetics authors (2020).
- 34 years directing the Antioxidants Research Laboratory at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging (1981–2015) — the institutional center where much of the modern antioxidants-and-aging literature was produced.
- Public-health policy footprint. Has served on expert panels for the U.S. Surgeon General, FDA Food Advisory Committee, U.S. Olympic Committee Sports Medicine Committee, and WHO/FAO food-based dietary guidelines consultations.
- ASN Mary Swartz Rose Senior Investigator Award (2016) for research on the safety and efficacy of bioactive compounds for human health.
