About

Dimitrios Lypitkas, MSc is the biologist responsible for Astrea Health's biology laboratory. He studied biology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, then completed a University of Crete MSc in Molecular Biology and Biomedicine with bench work at FORTH and a thesis on neurotrophin analogs in Alzheimer's disease models. Before joining Astrea, he worked with Christoforos Giatzakis, PhD at DNAbiolab, developing diagnostic methods in molecular biology and genetics. At Astrea, that training supports the clinic's whole-exome, panel, and molecular-diagnostics workflow.

What to Know

Signature approach

Lypitkas runs the bench side of Astrea's testing flow. When a case needs whole-exome sequencing, a hereditary-cancer panel, molecular diagnostics, or supporting biochemistry, his lab work produces the data the clinical team interprets. The emphasis is sample quality, methods development, and reliable handoff from laboratory result to medical review.

What sets them apart

  • FORTH research training. His MSc work connected him to the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology in Crete, including neurotrophin and Alzheimer's-model research.
  • Published lab output. He co-authored a 2024 Glia paper on a novel TrkB agonist tested in mouse and human stem-cell models of Alzheimer's disease.
  • DNAbiolab continuity. Training under Christoforos Giatzakis gives Astrea a lab team with a shared diagnostic-methods background rather than a newly assembled bench.

Before You Book

  • Result flow. His work supports the lab result you receive; interpretation and next-step planning come through Astrea's physician or genetic-counseling review.
  • Sampling handoff. The clinic's nursing coordinator handles patient sampling, then the lab turns that sample into sequencing, panel, or molecular-diagnostics output.
  • Why it matters. His methods work shapes the reliability of Astrea's genetic-testing pipeline.
