One age is the wrong number for a human body
At 35, your liver might look 40 while your heart looks 30
Researchers trained models on archived pathology slides to estimate biological age across forty tissue types. A tissue could appear older or younger than the person it came from, and larger gaps were associated with disease. These are research models, not clinical tests.
A breast-cancer drug reduced frailty in aged mice: Palbociclib blocked inflammatory signaling from senescent cells, damaged cells that stop dividing but remain active. Treated mice were measurably less frail. This is animal evidence, and the drug has meaningful toxicity.
One type of immune cell became unusually common in people over 110: Killer CD4 T cells, which can destroy abnormal cells, began expanding around age 100. In the oldest participants, a few closely related groups made up much of the CD4 T-cell population. Their receptors matched cells found inside tumors, leading the authors to suggest they may help suppress cancer. The study was small and cannot establish cause.
Loneliness and social isolation were linked to more years living with disease: Among more than a quarter of a million UK adults, people who were both lonely and isolated at age 50 had about two fewer disease-free years. The loss was larger for years free of mental illness. Healthier habits narrowed the gap associated with isolation, but not loneliness.
People who took the stairs had 24% lower mortality: A pooled analysis of five studies and 455,619 people also found 39% lower cardiovascular mortality. The evidence is observational, and stair use was self-reported.
Semaglutide lowered inflammation before participants lost weight: In a prespecified substudy of the 17,604-patient SELECT trial, semaglutide reduced a standard inflammation marker by more than a third. The reduction appeared within weeks and was also seen in people who lost no weight.
Every recipient of lab-grown heart cells developed a rhythm problem: The first randomized study of donor stem-cell-derived heart muscle enrolled twenty people undergoing bypass surgery. Half received cell injections. No tumors or sustained dangerous rhythms were reported. Recipients walked farther, but heart-pumping strength did not improve.
Age-related blood-cell mutations were linked to microbleeds and white-matter damage in the brain: Among 1,572 people with an irregular heartbeat followed for seven years, the one in five who carried these mutations had more microbleeds, more white-matter damage, and slightly greater cognitive decline.
The first mRNA flu vaccine was approved for adults over 65 without an illness trial in that age group: The agency approved the vaccine using a large illness trial in adults ages 50 to 64. Approval for adults 65 and older was based on measures of immune response, a standard regulatory pathway.
Doctors warned that direct-to-consumer health tests can mislead healthy people: Angela Raffle, Frank Sullivan, and Margaret McCartney argue in the BMJ that commercial self-testing can lead to misleading results and overdiagnosis.
A testing company bought a chain of plasma-exchange clinics: Viome acquired Circulate Health, moving from selling tests into providing treatments. Plasma exchange removes and replaces the liquid portion of blood. Terms were not disclosed, and the procedure has not been tested in outcome trials for healthy aging.

Your organs may be aging at different rates
A team in Nature Medicine trained deep-learning models on 25,712 archived pathology slides covering forty tissue types. The models estimated age from microscopic tissue structure to within about five years. The researchers compared each tissue's predicted age with the person's chronological age. Those gaps were associated with disease.
Patterns of gene activity in blood also predicted tissue-age gaps. The team validated the method across eight diseases, including Alzheimer's disease, stroke, and Crohn's disease.
Lifestyle and medical factors were also associated with how quickly a tissue appeared to age.
These are research tools, not clinical tests. Four of the forty tissue clocks were trained on too few samples. It does not beat the DNA clocks behind it.
This lets researchers ask which part of the body appears older and what may be driving the difference.
Until the method is clinically validated, it should not guide treatment. If you want to assess established health risks, start with a clinician who knows your history.

One drug is sold for longevity without a trial; another has new animal evidence
AgelessRx already sells low-dose tadalafil, the generic form of Cialis, for longevity at $70 per month. The offer is based on two observational analyses. One found roughly half the rate of cardiovascular death among men taking the drug. A larger analysis found about a third less dementia.
No randomized trial has tested those claims. Cleveland Clinic cardiologist Steven Nissen told NPR that without randomized data, "it's pretty hard to justify."
Gemfibrozil, a generic cholesterol drug, has the new research. It extended healthy lifespan across several species by blocking a gut transporter and lowering amino-acid levels in a way that resembles protein restriction. Aged female mice became less frail. The drug has not been tested for longevity in humans.
Physical activity outside work was linked to lower dementia risk; physical jobs were linked to higher risk
A USC-led pooled analysis of studies covering more than 4.2 million people across thirty countries followed participants for about a decade. People with the most leisure-time activity had roughly a quarter lower dementia risk. People whose activity came from their jobs had about a fifth higher risk.
The authors suggest that working conditions, rather than movement itself, may explain the difference. Physically demanding jobs can involve stress, limited control, hazards, and short recovery periods. Each has independently been associated with dementia risk.
The evidence is observational, nearly all activity was self-reported, and the authors say the findings are not a reason to avoid an active job.
Most surveyed Americans would accept a shorter life for more disease-free years
National Geographic reported a survey of 1,000 US adults alongside its September cover story on cellular reprogramming.
Sixty-four percent said they would accept a shorter life in exchange for more disease-free years. Fewer than one in ten viewed aging as a condition science should treat. Seven in ten worried about the risks of new longevity technologies.
Forty percent said they would take an approved daily reprogramming pill. The survey measured stated preferences, not behavior. Its results suggest that people are more interested in staying healthy for longer than in treating aging itself.
